About

I am Shwetha Ashok, and I grew up in Bangalore, where I have lived all my life. Like many from this city, I pursued an engineering degree and later joined the IT industry, where I currently work full-time.

I used to participate in yoga demonstrations back in school, but I lost touch with the practice after that. During a particularly challenging phase in my life, yoga found its way back to me. I started practicing asanas in 2013. In the first five years, I explored different styles, but I wasn’t very consistent and would only practice on weekends. In March 2018, I committed to a regular Mysore Ashtanga practice.

As someone who is hypermobile, asanas came naturally to me. While I have flexibility, I initially struggled with inversions and strength-based postures. It took years of effort, but I eventually realised that yoga is much more than just the asanas. While asanas form the foundation of the practice, the true essence of yoga extends far beyond them.

I have been fortunate to meet some truly amazing teachers at key moments in my life, who have played a significant role in shaping the person I am today. Ashtanga has transformed the way I see the world and myself, and I am forever indebted to my teachers for their guidance and support. There have been times when I questioned my life choices and my reasons for practicing yoga, but I always find peace and clarity once I step onto the mat. The principles of yoga have become a guiding force that I try to live by, both on and off the mat.

I am forever grateful to my school yoga teacher, Manjula, from SVM, who gave me the opportunity to be part of the school annual day. Unfortunately, she is no longer with us, but I am deeply indebted to her. If it weren’t for her, I would have never discovered what I was capable of as a child.

I would like to thank my teachers at Aayana Yoga Academy, where I began my yoga practice: Suneet, Mrinali, Regesh, Aparna, Akilesh, and Dushyanth. I extend special gratitude to my Ashtanga teachers – Nitesh Sir, Guru Sir, Kapil Sir, Tapan, and Ravi. I am eternally grateful to each of you for your teaching, guidance, and encouragement throughout this incredible journey. My deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and belief in me, especially during times when I couldn’t see a way forward.

The growth I’ve experienced in every aspect of my life over the years has been tremendous, and I truly hope to inspire some of you to begin your own yoga journey.
